Slow Fire
Ten years with you and never a fight,
No thunderclap, nor bitter refrain—
Just a slow and steady burn we share
Like a fire that needs a soothing rain
Through all the highways and the miles
Your love’s a song playing in my head
A melody that calls me home—
To you, the fire…..your bed
There’s a hunger in that morning light
When your skin meets with mine at dawn
Intensely fierce yet beautifully slow
Lingering long after it’s gone.
Forever’s only ours to claim
Within love’s sweet and patient flame
In passions’s warmth we’ll rise and burn
Two hearts that never ache or yearn
So let this be my Valentine—
Not dressed in lace or borrowed line
But written quietly in each dawn
Where your slow fire does answer mine
