First Date

At first site

A brilliant smile 

Reaching wide to

Expectant blue eyes,

Looking down from 

His tall athlete frame. 

Swim date ready,

But the pool

Was in disrepair. 

Not ready to concede, 

Let’s grab a drink 

At Harpoon Harry’s. 

Good conversation,

Recollections of the past, 

Current affairs,

And future dreams.

Finding common interests, 

Through curiosity and inquiry. 

Great idea,

Unseasonably warm,

Let’s climb 

The Fire tower,

See Bluff Mountain’s

Spectacular views.  

First kiss, 

Up on the fire tower

Chilled to the bone, 

An algid wind blowing, 

Let’s keep warm, 

In shivering embrace. 

Many talents, 

A musician by trade,

An Ironman in earnest,

An adventurous soul,

Amiable and well educated. 

My felicitous first date.
