SUNSET LOVE

After life’s long day

You can feel the change

So caught up you hardly notice

Until you pause to take it in

It began like a dream

Gurgles and giggles

Curiosity gave birth

Reason its offspring

Crawling morphs 

To stumbling...Soon standing 

Becomes dashing....

The race is on

And what a race it is!

A mad dash to the finish

Hell Katie! Bar the door!

Nothing’s stopping this train

Risks taken

Hmph! What risks?

Mortality is ignored

For immortality awaits

You know it all

No one can tell you

Mistakes are made

Lessons learned

Adventures embarked 

Conquests conquered 

Dreams are chased

Innocence lost 

Love is discovered

Careers are launched

Vows are taken

Children are born

Money is made

Money is saved

Money is lent

Money is spent 

Life is sweet

For a while....

New gurgles and giggles 

Mischievous smiles

Pop tarts and PB&J 

Hurry! Hurry!

“Where’s my coat?”

Don’t miss the bus

Days blur into years

In a blink 

Kindergarten turns to 

Graduation gowns

Caretaker for too long

No more 

The time has come

Taking care of “me” now

Love left here long ago

But no one noticed

So who is this stranger

Sharing the bed?

Clutter and chaos 

Become calm and ordered

An empty nest 

A reassessment 

Making you own way

DYI ... Home Depot bound 

A new appreciation develops 

Home maintenance is underrated

Independence has its virtues 

Let’s get off the couch 

Let’s explore a sport

I’ll be an athlete 

No so fast 

Genetics sing a different  song

Hips need fixing

First one then the other

Somewhere between surgeries 

A fateful email is sent

Who’s this guy’s swimming 6 miles?

For puppies and kittens no less

Donation turns to correspondence

Let’s swim together 

And Swim you did 

Into each other’s arms

New love

New experiences

First Triathlon

Made the podium

Tried a longer race

Mmph! ....Let’s rethink this 

Guess I’ll settle for 

Sherpa extraordinaire

But the bond is strong

In this twilight love 

Though life’s dusk is falling

The passion remains

For there’s really no tomorrow 

The journey simply stops

And we’re living in this moment 

Endeared to one another

As life’s colors glow warm

Our love grows ever stronger

For we found each other

Before the dark cold night

And when life’s long day is done 

Our next journey begins

So we cling ever more tightly

To our Sunset Love
