Bunny Love
Bunny Love
He was tall that’s for sure
All ears and feet and rangy fur
She was quite the opposite
Her beauty was her requisite
It’s funny how they met, you’ve heard
A charity for baby birds
The ones that’d fallen outa their nests
She saw his efforts and was impressed
The plan… to swim across the pond
To shores no rabbit had gone beyond
Without swim aids… not’a single thing
No floatees or flippers or a big rubber ring
Old and young from far and wide
Moms and Dads… kids by their sides
From every warren … 1000 strong
A Gibbering jumping thumping throng
You could feel the excitement all in the air
As he hopped on a rock about to prepare
Adjusting his goggles and his heart rate strap
Pulling his ears trough his “Iron Hare” cap
She’s not sure how …. but suddenly
She realized, “He’s looking at me”
That moment frozen in her mind
When both their hearts became entwined
A hush fell on the waiting crowd
As he raised his hand and said out loud
“Before I start this 6 mile swim”
“Don’t forget our homeless feathered friends”
“But my effort will be dedicated to”
“A girl I saw with eyes of blue”
She gasped, “My hero! My Number one!”
“I’ll be waiting for you when you’re done”
On the horizon… a swimmer’s stroke
Her heart felt it was in her throat
Slowly the splashes began to be heard
Shallower water… then he emerged
Before he even reached the bank
She rushed to him… in his arms she sank
His wet fur soaked her Easter dress
Lost in the moment…his strong caress
He slowly lifted up her chin
With a gentle kiss and a boyish grin
He said, “As long as there’s stars above”
“We’ll spend our days in Bunny Love”
